Patna/Bodh Gaya: The Bihar government has approved the lease settlement of 34 decimals of government land for the Namgyal Tantric College in Bodh Gaya, granting the Buddhist institution the right to use the land for 50 years under prescribed terms and conditions.
The approval was issued by the state cabinet in its meeting held on Wednesday and marks a significant administrative step for the institution, which is associated with the Dalai Lama and forms part of Bodh Gaya’s international Buddhist community.
Fifty-Year Lease Approved
According to the departmental order, the lease has been sanctioned for a period of 50 years, during which the institution will be required to comply with all conditions laid down by the state government.
The approved land comprises 34 decimals from government-owned land recorded under Khata No. 1021 (new) and Khesra No. 3117.
Officials said the lease settlement has been approved subject to the applicable rules and regulations governing the use of government land.
Institution Linked To Dalai Lama
Namgyal Tantric College is regarded as one of the prominent Buddhist religious and educational institutions associated with the Dalai Lama.
The college is part of Bodh Gaya’s wider network of monasteries and learning centres that attract Buddhist monks, scholars and pilgrims from India and abroad.
Its presence contributes to the town’s reputation as a major centre for Buddhist studies and spiritual practice.
Administrative Process To Continue
Following the approval by the state cabinet, the remaining administrative formalities for the lease settlement will now be completed.
Once the process is finalised, the institution will be able to utilise the land in accordance with the conditions specified in the lease agreement.
Boost For Bodh Gaya’s Buddhist Institutions
Bodh Gaya, where the Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment, is one of Buddhism’s holiest pilgrimage destinations and hosts monasteries representing traditions from across the world.
The state government has increasingly sought to support infrastructure and institutional development in the town as part of efforts to strengthen its religious, cultural and tourism significance.
Officials said the latest approval will help facilitate the functioning of the Namgyal Tantric College while reinforcing Bodh Gaya’s position as an international centre for Buddhist education and pilgrimage.
