Income Tax Raids Target Patna’s Harilal Sweets and Anshul Homes Over Alleged Tax Evasion
Patna: The Income Tax Department has launched a search operation at the premises of two prominent businesses in Patna—Harilal Sweets, a renowned chain of sweet shops, and Anshul Homes, a leading real estate company. The raids, conducted on Wednesday, follow allegations of tax evasion by both companies.
Officials from the Income Tax Department are currently examining financial documents and interrogating individuals associated with the two businesses. The raids have created a stir in the city, with both Harilal Sweets and Anshul Homes under scrutiny for allegedly evading taxes.
Harilal Sweets, a household name in Bihar, operates around 10 outlets across the state, including locations in Patna, Chhapra, and Siwan. The department reportedly received intelligence suggesting irregularities in tax filings, prompting the action. Simultaneously, the team is investigating Anshul Homes, a well-known real estate company with significant operations in the region.
These raids come on the heels of a separate high-profile operation earlier the same day. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at five locations in Patna, Nalanda, and Bengaluru as part of its investigation into a Rs 100 crore railway claim scam. That case involves allegations of fraud using fake documents in the names of railway employees.
