Bihar Budget 2025-26: Purnia Airport to Be Operational in Three Months, Says Finance Minister

Patna: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Samrat Chaudhary on Monday announced that the under-construction airport in Purnia will be completed within the next three months, paving the way for commercial flights. The announcement was made while presenting the state budget for 2025-26 in the Assembly, with an outlay of Rs 3.16 lakh crore—Bihar’s largest budget to date.

Highlighting the rapid growth in air travel demand, the deputy CM said the Bihar government, in collaboration with the Centre, plans to develop multiple greenfield airports across the state. “We are committed to enhancing air connectivity. Apart from Purnia, greenfield airports will be constructed in Munger, Rajgir, Sultanganj, Madhubani, Saharsa, Beerpur, and Raxaul,” he said.

The push for expanding aviation infrastructure aligns with Bihar’s broader economic strategy, aiming to boost regional connectivity and attract investment. With Purnia airport set to be operational soon, the government hopes to provide better transport options to the region, which has long lacked direct air links.

Samrat’s budget speech also emphasised the state’s growing fiscal strength, with the 2025-26 budget being Rs 38,000 crore higher than the previous year’s.
