Patna: Bihar is set to witness a shift in weather conditions in the days leading up to Holi, with six districts expected to be affected from March 8. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has urged residents to remain cautious, as a drop in temperature is likely during the festivities.
Over the next 24 to 48 hours, surface wind speeds in the western parts of the state and surrounding areas are forecast to range between 10-20 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 30 km/h. A decline of 2-3°C in both maximum and minimum temperatures is expected across several regions after 24 hours.
A western disturbance is predicted to impact the western Himalayas between March 8-9. As a result, a yellow alert has been issued for March 8 in Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Banka, and Jamui, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
The changing weather patterns have already led to a decline in minimum temperatures across the state. Patna recorded a minimum temperature of 18.6°C, while Pupri in Sitamarhi registered the lowest at 10.5°C. Some districts reported temperatures 2-4°C above normal.
The maximum temperature in Patna rose slightly to 30.6°C, while Aurangabad recorded the state’s highest at 32.9°C. Most districts, except Madhepura, Forbesganj, Kishanganj, and Katihar, experienced a rise in maximum temperatures. Strong winds and partly cloudy conditions kept the weather moderate in Patna and nearby areas.
