The proposal was included in the state budget presented on Monday, paving the way for a significant infrastructure upgrade in the historic city.

The selected site, located near Nalanda University and the International Sports Complex, has already undergone an inspection by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), which has deemed it suitable for development. A further assessment by the Obstacle Limit Surface (OLS) survey team is expected soon. The airport project is expected to provide a major boost to tourism and sports, enhancing Bihar’s profile on the global stage while stimulating economic growth in the region.

A Major Infrastructure Project

Spanning 1,300 acres across villages in Rajgir block, including Meyar, Badhauna, Badhari, Patharora, and Goraur Mauja, the airport is set to be a game-changer for the state’s connectivity. A detailed land-use plan has already been prepared, and the process of land acquisition will commence once it receives official clearance.

The airport’s construction is expected to create employment opportunities and attract investment in sectors such as hospitality, transport, and local businesses. Hotels, restaurants, and tour services are likely to benefit from an influx of visitors, providing a substantial economic boost to the area.

Strengthening Rajgir’s Position as a Sports Hub

Rajgir is already home to an international sports complex, with an international cricket stadium nearing completion. Additionally, plans are underway for the development of an IT city and a film city in the region. The airport is expected to facilitate national and international sporting events, making Rajgir a key destination for athletes, coaches, and sports enthusiasts. Local youth will also have better access to world-class training facilities, fostering the growth of sports tourism in Bihar.

Economic Growth and Investment OpportunitiesBeyond tourism and sports, the airport is expected to enhance economic opportunities by attracting both national and international investors. Sectors such as adventure tourism, hospitality, and transport are set to benefit significantly. Improved air connectivity will also encourage business expansion and infrastructural development in and around Rajgir.
