Bihar Assembly: Traffic Chaos in Patna and 4 Districts, Plea to Save Koilwar Bridge – Government Responds

Patna : The Legislative Assembly today witnessed a heated discussion over the persistent problem of traffic congestion affecting several districts, including Patna, Ara, Saran, and Arwal. BJP MLA Amarendra Singh raised concerns about the deteriorating condition of the Koilwar Bridge and stressed the need for immediate intervention.

Amarendra Singh highlighted how heavy vehicles line up for hours, causing severe jams. He urged the government to take steps to regulate traffic and prevent the parking of heavy vehicles on bridges. He also pointed out that the barrier near the dam on the Son river, adjacent to the Koilwar Bridge, had been broken and called for its restoration along with the widening of the road.

Responding to the concerns, Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin acknowledged the problem and informed the House that instructions had been given to the district administration and the Transport Department to improve coordination and address the issue. He clarified that parking heavy vehicles on bridges, including Koilwar, is strictly prohibited, and directives have been issued to enforce this.

Nitin Nabin added that work on an alternative route was underway, and the National Highways Authority had been directed to explore solutions to alleviate the traffic crisis.

Assembly Speaker Nandkishore Yadav echoed the concerns raised and urged the road construction department to take stronger measures to resolve the problem. “Everyone is troubled by the constant traffic jams. The minister must work harder to ensure a lasting solution,” he said while issuing instructions from the chair.
