Smartphones Seized in Surprise Raid at Patna's Beur Jail

Patna: A surprise raid led by Superintendent Neeraj Kumar Jha at Beur Jail in Patna has uncovered four smartphones and two chargers, raising fresh concerns about security lapses in one of India’s most fortified prisons.

Beur Jail, which houses around 4,600 inmates, including many notorious criminals facing serious charges, was jolted by the sudden search operation. Among the key discoveries, three mobile phones were reportedly seized from the ward of prisoner Ravi Gop, a resident of Patna City with multiple serious allegations against him, including murder, robbery, and extortion.

The raid targeted several wards, including the Godavari ward, which is known to house hardened criminals. Authorities claim a smartphone was found hidden under Ravi Gop’s bed. Unofficial reports suggest he may have been charging fellow inmates money to use the phones for communication, though the jail administration has yet to confirm this.

Officials say further investigation is underway, and a case may be registered in connection with the seizure.
