Ganga Cruise Service From Digha to Kangan Ghat Set to Launch in Patna This June

Patna : From June onwards, visitors and commuters in Patna will have a new way to travel — by cruise. The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) has announced plans to launch a daily cruise service along a 15km stretch of the Ganges, from Digha Ghat to Kangan Ghat via NIT Ghat.

The move is part of a broader push to promote river tourism in the state. A proposal is expected to be submitted to the Inland Waterways Authority’s regional office at Gaighat by April 10.

Currently, cruise operations are limited to a 10km route between Digha and NIT Ghat, but the upcoming expansion will extend the circuit to Kangan Ghat, offering scenic views of more than 50 historic riverfront ghats along the way.

In addition to leisure cruises, plans are also underway to connect Digha Ghat to Sonpur’s famed Hariharnath Temple via waterway. The expansion has been initiated under the direction of Bihar’s tourism minister, Raju Kumar Singh.

Commuters travelling between Danapur and Patna City — who currently rely on buses, autos or trains — may also benefit from the new service. The cruise vessels will be equipped with essential amenities, including drinking water, washrooms and seating areas.

At present, BSTDC operates three cruises on a limited 1–3km sightseeing route. Under the new plan, over 10 vessels are expected to operate daily along the full stretch, offering both tourists and locals a relaxed alternative to the city’s congested roads.

The route will begin at Janardhan Ghat in Digha and pass prominent spots such as LCT Ghat, Rajapur Pul Ghat, Collectorate Ghat, Mahendru Ghat, Kali Ghat, Bans Ghat, Patna College Ghat and Kangan Ghat, among others — providing a unique view of the city’s riverine heritage.
