Patna: Despite a weak monsoon, parts of Bihar are likely to experience isolated rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning over the next 24 hours due to local atmospheric conditions, according to the Meteorological Centre, Patna.
The weather department has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and isolated rain in 20 districts. A warning for heavy rainfall with thunderstorms has been issued for Aurangabad, Buxar and Siwan districts.
Wind speeds of 30-40 kmph are also likely at some places during this period.
Several parts of Bihar received rainfall during the past 24 hours. Khagaria recorded the highest rainfall at 66.4 mm, while other areas also reported moderate rainfall.
Rainfall activity likely to continue for three days
The weather department said a low-pressure area has formed over West Bengal and adjoining areas of north Odisha, Jharkhand and the northwest Bay of Bengal. The monsoon trough is extending from southwest Uttar Pradesh through Jharkhand towards the Bay of Bengal.
Under the influence of these weather systems, heavy rainfall activity is likely to continue in some parts of Bihar over the next three days.
Despite the recent rainfall, Bihar has received 42% less rainfall than normal during the current monsoon season.
Patna records 12.2 mm rain
On Monday, cloudy conditions, isolated rainfall and humidity were reported in different parts of the state. Patna recorded 12.2 mm rainfall, while Bhagalpur received 6.6 mm, Valmiki Nagar 4.3 mm and Munger 2.0 mm.
Maximum temperatures declined in 18 districts, including Patna. The state capital recorded a maximum temperature of 34.5°C, a fall of 2.5°C. Bhabua recorded the highest maximum temperature at 37.2°C.
A wind speed of 39 kmph was recorded at Dholli in Muzaffarpur.
Rainfall recorded at several locations
Among the other locations that received significant rainfall were Khaira in Jamui (52.2 mm), Bihar Sharif (45.8 mm), Jhanjharpur in Madhubani (45.2 mm), Nawanagar in Buxar (42.4 mm), Sugauli in East Champaran (39.8 mm), Palasi in Araria (38.6 mm), Pusa in Samastipur (37.4 mm), Motihari (37.1 mm) and Chakai in Jamui (35.2 mm).
Rohtas recorded 34.2 mm, Forbesganj in Araria 33.2 mm, Kasba in Purnia 33 mm, Basua in Supaul 30 mm, Mansi in Khagaria 28 mm, Gopalganj 27.2 mm and Kotwa in East Champaran 26.8 mm.
Munger recorded 25.4 mm, Ghat Kusumba in Sheikhpura 25.2 mm, Lakhisarai 24 mm, Narpatganj in Araria 23.4 mm, Gaighat in Muzaffarpur 22.6 mm, Nabinagar in Aurangabad 22.6 mm and Tharthari in Nalanda 21.2 mm.
