Patna: Bihar is poised to make sporting history as it prepares to host the seventh edition of the Khelo India Youth Games from May 4 to 15 — a first for the state and a major step in its evolving journey as a hub for athletic talent.
The national event will span five districts — Patna, Rajgir, Gaya, Bhagalpur and Begusarai — with organisers promising a seamless experience for the thousands of young athletes expected to arrive from across the country.
The official curtain-raiser will begin on April 14 with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar unveiling the Games’ mascot and emblem at Samvad Bhawan in Patna, followed by the launch of the anthem and official jersey at Gyan Bhawan later in the evening.
Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya will attend the launch ceremony as chief guest, alongside Minister of State Nikhil Khadse. Bihar’s Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha will also be present, with Sports Minister Surendra Mehta presiding over the event.
Football matches will be held in Bhagalpur, while Begusarai will host badminton. Other events will take place across venues in Patna, Rajgir and Gaya. The state government has confirmed that stadiums and sports facilities have been upgraded to national standards, with arrangements finalised for accommodation, meals and security.
“This is not just a sporting event, it is a statement of intent,” a senior official from the Bihar Sports Department said. “We are creating an ecosystem where youth from every corner of the state can aspire to represent the country.”
Seen as a turning point for Bihar’s grassroots sports development, the Games are expected to enhance the state’s sporting infrastructure and inspire civic pride. Officials believe the event will also help position Bihar more prominently on the national sporting map.
As the state counts down to the start of the Games, the unveiling of the mascot and anthem is expected to generate excitement and set the tone for a landmark edition of India’s flagship youth sports tournament.
