Rajgir / Patna : Rajgir railway station is set to undergo a significant transformation, with world-class upgrades and modern passenger amenities planned under the Centre’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The redevelopment, with a projected budget of Rs 40 to 50 crore, is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.
The revamp is part of a broader initiative by East Central Railway to modernise more than 93 stations across its network, including over 25 stations in the Danapur division alone. The project at Rajgir is progressing at pace, according to officials.
Among the enhancements, the station will feature historical imagery on its outer and inner walls, including depictions of Jarasandha and other figures linked to Rajgir’s Buddhist heritage. New platforms, escalators and lifts are being added to improve accessibility, and a VVIP lounge, upgraded food stalls and restaurants are also in the pipeline.
“This work is being carried out following the initiative of Nalanda MP Kaushalendra Kumar,” said Aadhar Raj, Additional Divisional Railway Manager of Danapur Division. “Rajgir and Bihar Sharif were both included in the Amrit Bharat scheme with the support of the Railway Ministry, and both will be redeveloped by year-end.”
In a separate development, a new washing pit is also being constructed at Rajgir station at a cost of Rs 4 crore. The facility is expected to facilitate the operation of two to three additional trains from the station.
Meanwhile, new train services have been introduced as part of broader infrastructure improvements. A train from Rajgir to Rishikesh, via Patna Junction, was flagged off on Saturday by MP Kaushalendra. Another service, connecting Rajgir to Katra, home of the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, is scheduled to begin operations on Monday.
