Banka / Patna : Police have launched a murder investigation after the decapitated body of a man was discovered in a roadside drain in the Banka district, sparking outrage and grief among locals.
The body was found near Rampur Mor, under the jurisdiction of the Amarpur police station, at around midday on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Bihari Yadav, a resident of Kenduar village. According to forensic experts at the scene, not only had the victim been beheaded, but his genitals had also been mutilated. A postmortem examination is being carried out.
Yadav had reportedly been returning home from Kolkata earlier in the week. His wife, Rinku Devi, told police that she had spoken to him on the phone after he reached English Mor on Monday. However, subsequent attempts to contact him failed as his phone was found switched off. The family began searching for him but had found no trace until they were informed by a relative of a body discovered near Rampur.
Family members identified Yadav’s remains at the scene. A box of sweets and a bag were found nearby, suggesting he was carrying personal belongings when he was killed. Police suspect murder based on the injuries observed.
According to the family, Yadav had been embroiled in a land dispute with relatives since 2016. “He had received death threats in the past,” a family member said, alleging that his uncle and others may be involved in the killing.
The news of the brutal killing caused distress in Kenduar. Yadav’s wife is reported to have fainted upon hearing of her husband’s death, while their children wept over the body. The emotionally charged atmosphere led villagers to block the English Mor–Shambhuganj main road for nearly an hour, demanding justice and criticising the local administration.
Officials, including Banka sub-divisional police officer Vipin Vihari, Amarpur police chief Pankaj Kumar Jha, and local administrative officers, arrived at the scene to restore order and assured residents of a thorough investigation.
“The deceased had been missing for two days and had been working as a labourer in Kolkata,” Vihari said. “Initial investigations suggest a possible motive linked to a love affair, but we are exploring all angles.”
