Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation held an inter-departmental meeting on Saturday to review monsoon preparedness, with key officials from the civic body and Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO) jointly assessing vulnerable areas across the city.

Following field inspections of various wards, BUIDCO Managing Director and Municipal Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar directed officials to prioritise solutions for identified drainage issues and waterlogging hotspots. He instructed swift resolution of all concerns, with alternative arrangements in place to manage emergencies during the rainy season.

In a mop-up round of action, the Executive Officer was specifically asked to re-clean the Saidpur drain, while BUIDCO officers were told to monitor drainage around the Delhi Public School (DPS) area closely. Zone-wise drainage problems were also reviewed during the meeting, with a strict timeline set for execution. The Project Director of Azimabad was asked to provide an explanation for reported lapses in drainage work in that area.

To ensure rapid response during heavy rainfall, 75 nodal officers have been deputed—one in each of Patna’s 75 wards. These officers will be held accountable for waterlogging and drainage maintenance and are required to submit detailed reports, including the status of drains, manholes, and desilting progress, directly to headquarters.

The Municipal Commissioner himself is expected to visit each ward to assess the drainage infrastructure, verify machinery and equipment, and oversee on-ground preparedness. Solutions for critical waterlogging areas will also be presented as part of this process.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Additional Municipal Commissioner, Executive Officers, Executive Engineers (including those from the electricity department), BUIDCO’s Project Director and Deputy Project Director, the Namami Gange Officer, and representatives from multiple city agencies.
