Patna: Air travel from Patna’s Jai Prakash Narayan International Airport continues to face significant disruptions, with more than seven flights cancelled in the aftermath of “Operation Sindoor.” The cancellations, which began following India’s military action earlier this week, extended into today, impacting key routes to and from Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, and Chandigarh.
Passengers were notified of the cancellations, and airlines have been providing information regarding alternative arrangements. The disruption stems from heightened security protocols and airspace adjustments implemented after Indian armed forces conducted precision strikes on alleged terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Wednesday. While Patna airport itself was not among the over 18 airports in northern and western India temporarily closed, the broader security measures have led to schedule changes and cancellations.
Major carriers such as IndiGo and Air India have announced alterations to their flight schedules. The cancelled services include flights operating between Patna and Bhubaneswar, Patna and Mumbai, and Patna and Chandigarh. Return flights to Patna from these cities have also been affected.
In a statement, IndiGo cited “airspace conditions” as the reason for the cancellations, offering affected passengers the option of a refund or rescheduling through their website. Air India has also established a helpline, 011-69329333, to assist passengers. Airport authorities have urged travellers to remain patient during this period of disruption.
Adding to the impact on air travel are the nationwide mock security drills being conducted in the wake of Operation Sindoor. Bihar has seen successful blackout drills in cities including Patna, Begusarai, Purnia, Katihar, Araria, and Kishanganj, with further drills planned in other urban centres. These heightened security measures have necessitated increased caution within the airspace, contributing to the rise in flight cancellations.
