Patna: Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan has indicated his willingness to contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, stating that he is prepared to enter the fray if his party deems it appropriate.
Speaking to the media in Vaishali district, Chirag said, “If my party is ready, I am ready to contest the assembly elections. It is conducting a survey in different assembly constituencies. Both my party and the NDA will benefit if I contest the election.”
This statement marks a significant shift from Chirag’s earlier stance, where he had not committed to participating in the state elections. The change in position follows a recent meeting with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Arun Bharti, LJP (RV)’s Bihar in-charge and Paswan’s brother-in-law, has publicly supported the idea of Chirag contesting from a general (unreserved) seat, emphasizing the party’s strategy to broaden its appeal beyond traditional support bases.
The LJP (RV) has scheduled a ‘Nav Sankalp Sabha’ on June 8 in Ara, aimed at galvanizing party workers and supporters across seven districts. The LJP (RV) currently has no representation in the Bihar Assembly, following the defection of its sole MLA to the JD(U).
The upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, scheduled for October-November 2025, are anticipated to be highly competitive, with various parties strategizing to secure a majority in the 243-member house.
