CCTV, Wi-Fi, Solar Lighting, Ambulance: Muzaffarpur’s Jajuar Panchayat Sets Rural Development Benchmark

Muzaffarpur: Jajuar Madhya Panchayat, located in the Katra block of Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, is rapidly emerging as a national model for smart rural development. By implementing a host of modern amenities and public services, the panchayat has transformed itself into a beacon of local governance—culminating in national recognition with an award from the President of India.

The panchayat is fully equipped with CCTV cameras to monitor public spaces and deter crime. Officials say the surveillance system has already contributed to a noticeable drop in criminal activity, making the area safer for residents. Additionally, the availability of free Wi-Fi has ensured that people in the community stay connected, aiding education and digital accessibility.

A particularly impactful initiative is the introduction of a dedicated ambulance service owned and operated by the panchayat. The vehicle is available 24/7 and reaches residents’ homes with just a phone call—dramatically reducing delays in medical emergencies.

To address drinking water concerns, RO facilities have been installed to provide clean, cold water, particularly crucial during the scorching summer months. The administration has also tackled flood-related challenges by constructing paved roads in each hamlet of the flood-prone areas, ensuring uninterrupted access throughout the year. Essential services like ration and water supply are delivered directly to homes.

In a forward-looking move, solar-powered streetlights have been installed across the panchayat, improving night-time visibility while promoting clean energy. For recreational infrastructure, the area boasts a stadium with high-mast lighting for day-night matches, a public fitness park for adults, and a dedicated playground for children.

The panchayat’s transformative journey was led by its elected head, Suman Nath Thakur, who has been credited with utilising government funds effectively and transparently. As a result of these collective efforts, the panchayat has been honoured with a national award, and the prize money is being reinvested into improving local health services.
