Patna: Sweltering conditions continue to grip Bihar with maximum temperatures crossing 40°C in several districts on Sunday. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), no significant change in temperature is expected for the next three days, though a 2–3°C drop is likely thereafter.
As per the heatwave bulletin issued by the Patna Meteorological Centre, no official heatwave warning has been issued for June 16 and 17. However, extremely hot and humid conditions were reported in Dehri (41.8°C), Buxar (40.6°C), and Chhapra (40.3°C), with relative humidity hovering above 50%.
IMD’s forecast suggests that maximum temperatures will remain steady across most parts of Bihar until midweek. The relief, though minor, is expected by June 18 with a predicted dip in temperatures, offering some respite from the oppressive heat.
Meanwhile, conditions are favourable for the further advancement of the southwest monsoon into parts of Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh after June 16. The monsoon, which has already advanced into parts of the central and eastern subcontinent, is likely to trigger a shift in weather patterns, bringing rain and a drop in daytime temperatures.
Health officials continue to advise precautions, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses. People are urged to stay hydrated, avoid exposure to direct sunlight, and wear light cotton clothing.
With the monsoon likely to enter the state soon, officials are also on alert to manage the transition from heat to potential early flood-related risks in low-lying districts.
