Patna: The Bihar Police will now use a new law to take strong action against criminals who have earned wealth through illegal means. Under the recently introduced BNSS (Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita), police officers will be able to seize black money and property linked to crime without waiting for other agencies like the Enforcement Directorate.
Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar said at a press conference in Patna that Section 107 of the BNSS will help police officers act faster and more effectively. Earlier, such cases would often get delayed, but now DSP-rank officers can send proposals to courts to confiscate property. So far, 1,172 criminals have been identified across Bihar’s 1,249 police stations, and legal action has begun against 239 of them.
To ensure justice is delivered quickly, the state is planning to set up 100 fast-track courts—one in each district. These courts will handle serious criminal cases and help victims get faster relief. There is also a new rule to give financial help to families affected by crimes involving black money.
The DGP also gave a clear message against corruption in the police force. He said citizens should not be afraid to file complaints if any police officer asks for a bribe. Strict action is already being taken—12 officers were caught red-handed, 22 charged, and 66 suspended this year alone. “Corruption will not be tolerated,” he said.
