Patna: A land trader was shot dead late Sunday night on the Sohgi-Kandap Road in Punpun, on the outskirts of Patna, triggering fresh concerns over law and order in the region.

The victim, identified as 40-year-old Anjani Singh, son of Shyam Nandan Singh and a resident of Hander village, was returning home on a motorcycle after attending a Brahmabhoj (a post-funeral feast) in Kachuara village. According to local residents, Singh had stopped near the Kandap PACS godown in Gaurichak when unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire, striking him below the neck. He died on the spot.

Singh was reportedly involved in land trading. Police have recovered a bullet casing from the crime scene, and forensic teams along with a dog squad have been deployed as part of the investigation.

Singh’s body has been sent for postmortem examination. No arrests have been made so far.
