Ara: In a rare case from Ara in Bihar’s Bhojpur district, two minor girls, aged between 15 and 18, fled their homes and travelled to Delhi to marry each other in a temple. The two had reportedly been in a relationship for three years before deciding to take the step on June 15.
According to officials, the families of the girls filed missing complaints after discovering their absence. Acting on the complaint, local police, with assistance from the Child Protection Unit, traced the girls to Delhi and brought them back to Ara.
Following their return, both girls were handed over to the Child Protection Unit, where they underwent counselling sessions. Initially, both expressed a desire to continue living together. However, after sustained counselling, they agreed to live separately for the time being.
The girls had also posted photos on social media referring to each other as “husband and wife”. Such posts and related images were found in their mobile phones. No formal complaint or FIR has been registered in the matter, and the girls have now been returned to their respective families.
Inspector Devraj Rai confirmed that the situation is calm and under control, stating that both minors were separated amicably after counselling.
