Patna: The monsoon has intensified across Bihar, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert for heavy rainfall in 22 districts over the next 24 to 36 hours. Alongside, the department has also warned of lightning strikes and strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km/h.
A yellow alert has also been issued for 16 other districts, including Patna, predicting light to moderate rainfall. However, meteorologists caution that despite overcast skies in some regions, relief from the humid heat remains unlikely.
Weather Disruption in Munger: Diversion Collapses, Students Stranded
In a concerning development, a temporary diversion on the Guhiya River in Munger was swept away by a strong current on Thursday. The incident took place near Mahkola Basa on the Kharagpur-Tarapur main road, disrupting road connectivity and leaving school students stranded midway.
Locals quickly sprang into action, risking their own safety to help children cross the river. The collapse has also affected daily commuters, forcing them to seek alternative routes or remain stranded.
Last 24 Hours: High Humidity, No Rainfall
According to the IMD, no rainfall was recorded in any district in the past 24 hours. Rohtas registered the highest temperature at 35°C, while Banka was the coolest at 31°C. Despite the cloudy skies, the heat and humidity continue to cause discomfort across the state.
What to Expect Next
The Patna Meteorological Centre forecasts that maximum temperatures across most districts will hover between 33°C and 35°C. Heavy rain is likely in parts of North and South Bihar, with Patna expected to receive substantial showers post-June 28.
Humidity levels are projected to be 90% to 95% in the mornings, dropping to 40% to 50% by afternoon. Winds from the east are expected to blow at speeds of 10–15 km/h.
IMD Urges Caution, Especially Against Lightning
“Monsoon activity is now picking up pace across Bihar,” said officials from the Meteorological Centre. “While this brings much-needed relief to farmers, we strongly urge citizens to remain cautious—especially against lightning strikes, which pose serious risks during this period.”
Authorities have advised people to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid taking shelter under trees. Farmers and rural residents have also been urged to follow weather updates regularly to plan their activities accordingly.
