Patna: In a bid to climb the ranks in Swachh Survekshan 2025, Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a city-wide cleanliness campaign that is as symbolic as it is strategic — including a “tea party” held at a former garbage dump.
The event organised on Tuesday at the newly beautified GVP Point, is part of the ongoing Swachhta Pakhwada campaign, running until July 20. It reflects PMC’s latest efforts to reclaim and repurpose public spaces once notorious for open dumping.
What was once a waste collection point is now a social space — a transformation emblematic of the wider initiative sweeping across the city’s 75 wards. Patna’s residents, too, seem to be responding: officials say there has been a visible decline in littering in public areas, thanks in part to consistent awareness campaigns.
Under this drive, civic officials are not only cleaning and beautifying neglected corners of the city but also identifying repeat offenders — dubbed “road enemies” — who persist in dirtying public spaces. Ten such individuals are being named daily from each ward, a tactic meant to deter others.
The Municipal Commissioner is actively rallying civic staff and citizens alike, aiming to turn the campaign into a mass movement. So far, programs under Swachhta Pakhwada have been conducted at 19 sites across 19 zones, with more planned in the coming weeks.
