Patna: A cyber fraud ring that preyed on young men with false promises of high-paying “sex jobs” has been busted in Patna, lifting the lid on a racket that combined digital deception with deeply personal exploitation.
Patna’s Cyber Cell has arrested three suspects — young men hailing from Nalanda, Hilsa, and the Ramakrishna Nagar area of the city — accused of orchestrating a scam that extorted significant sums from victims lured by ads and calls offering work as “call boys.”
According to Cyber DSP Nitish Chandra Dharia, the gang operated by making fake calls over the internet and via social media, enticing targets with offers of lucrative earnings in the adult services industry. Once hooked, victims were pressured into paying so-called “processing fees,” registration charges, and security deposits, with fraudsters even going as far as creating forged identity cards to legitimise the fictitious employment.
“They exploited the vulnerability and curiosity of youth, turning technology into a weapon of deceit,” said Dharia.
A raid by police led to the seizure of fake documents, multiple mobile phones, laptops, and digital transaction records that investigators believe are crucial evidence of the gang’s operations.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly revealed details that could point to a wider network involved in similar cyber-enabled frauds. Police have launched further investigations to track down additional suspects linked to the syndicate.
Dharia urged the public, particularly young people, to remain vigilant against suspicious job offers online, warning that scams increasingly hide behind seemingly legitimate opportunities. “Report anything unusual to your nearest police station or cybercrime cell,” he appealed.
