Patna: The appetite for luxury vehicles is rising sharply in Bihar’s capital, with over 1,400 premium cars registered in the last three years alone, according to data from the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC).
This year, nearly 400 luxury four-wheelers—ranging in price from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 1 crore—have already been purchased in Patna. Toyota’s Innova Crysta has emerged as the most sought-after model, accounting for roughly half of all sales. The Toyota Fortuner follows as the second most popular choice.
Other high-end brands are also making inroads. So far in 2025, residents have purchased nine Mercedes-Benz cars, nine Jaguars, seven Porsches, four Range Rovers, and two Audis. The trend marks a significant rise compared to previous years.
Year-on-year surge in luxury purchases
The data reflects a steady increase in demand. In 2024, 363 luxury cars were sold in Patna district, including 301 Fortuners, 24 BMWs, and 20 Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The year before saw 353 such vehicles sold, with Toyota once again dominating through 313 Fortuner sales. Even in 2022, when 295 luxury cars were registered, Fortuners led the charts, followed by Mercedes-Benz and BMW.
Rise in high-end showrooms
Supporting this surge is the growing presence of automobile showrooms. Patna now hosts 59 car showrooms, with Maruti Suzuki having the largest footprint. However, foreign luxury brands are gaining ground. For the first time, a Mercedes-Benz showroom has opened in the city, signalling a shift in both demand and consumer expectations. Previously, prospective buyers had to travel to cities like Ranchi, Kolkata or Varanasi to access such models.
The trend has not only transformed Patna’s automotive landscape but has also provided a boost to the state’s revenue through increased GST collections and road tax.
