Patna: To tackle the growing crime in Patna, the Bihar government has decided to install 650 new CCTV cameras in the city. This step was taken after the recent murder of businessman Gopal Khemka, which shocked people across the capital. Officials say these cameras will help police catch criminals faster and improve the city’s safety.
Right now, Patna has around 3,357 CCTV cameras at 415 places, including busy roads and important squares. The new cameras will be installed at 197 more locations. Patna Smart City Limited has already chosen where the cameras will go and sent the plan for approval. Once funds are cleared, work will start quickly.
These cameras will be put up on JP Ganga Path from Sabhyata Dwar to Didarganj and at all entry and exit gates of Patna. Important spots like the new double-decker bridge on Ashoka Rajpath will also be covered. Police say this will help control crime and manage traffic better.
The police monitoring system will also be improved at the police station level so officers can keep a close watch. Along with this, shop owners and people living in buildings will be asked to install cameras outside their homes and shops to prevent thefts and increase safety in their areas.
