Patna: A brazen daylight murder inside Paras Hospital in Patna has sparked political outrage and renewed scrutiny of Bihar’s law and order situation. The victim, Chandan Mishra, a parolee from Buxar district, was shot dead inside the hospital’s ICU by five unidentified assailants who fled the scene, triggering panic and public concern.
The incident took place in one of Patna’s busiest localities, raising serious questions about the state’s security apparatus. Mishra, originally from Sonbarsa village and recently released on parole, had reportedly come to the hospital for medical treatment when he was attacked.
Independent MP from Purnia, Pappu Yadav, arrived at the hospital shortly after the incident but was prevented from entering the premises by police. A brief altercation occurred between Yadav and the officers stationed at the site, though police held their ground and refused entry.
Speaking to the media outside the hospital, Yadav condemned the deteriorating law and order in Bihar and called for the imposition of President’s Rule. “No one is safe in Bihar anymore,” he said, adding that he would soon meet the Governor to raise the issue.
The murder has quickly escalated into a political flashpoint. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav slammed the state government, questioning the safety of citizens. “Criminals are now entering ICUs to kill patients. Was this the condition before 2005?” he asked, in a thinly veiled criticism of the ruling NDA government.
The Bihar Congress also weighed in, posting on social media: “Open firing in Paras Hospital of the capital Patna. Crime in the state is so ‘healthy’ that now it has reached hospitals. Law and order exists only in press conferences.”
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha responded to the incident, calling it a “serious and unfortunate” matter and assuring that strict action would be taken against those responsible. Police have launched an investigation and a manhunt is underway to track down the suspects.
