Patna: A man accused of killing a BJP worker in Bihar has been arrested by the police. The victim, Surendra Prasad, was shot dead in Sheikhpura village of Pipra block on the night of 12 July while he was watering his field. Police said the murder was done due to local political rivalry.
The accused shooter, Ratan Kumar, took a contract worth Rs 2 lakh to carry out the murder. However, he received only Rs 2,000 as advance payment before the crime. Ratan is a resident of Sheikhpura village in Pipra. Police arrested him from Digha Bata after he returned from Baidyanath Dham, where he had gone after committing the murder.
Police recovered a country-made pistol and a bullet from him. During questioning, Ratan told the police about the advance payment. However, police believe he might have received Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000. A special team had been formed to catch him based on technical evidence. Police are now looking for another person involved in this case.
The victim’s wife had filed a case against two people, including a former village chief. Police said a pistol and a revolver were used to kill Surendra Prasad. The murder has shocked the local BJP unit and the villagers of Pipra.
