Patna: The Bihar government has transferred 55 deputy superintendent of police (DSP) rank officers in a major reshuffle ahead of the state Assembly elections scheduled later this year. A notification issued by the Home Department on Friday directed the officers to take charge of their new postings within 48 hours.
The transfers include Manoj Kumar, who was awaiting posting at the police headquarters and has now been appointed additional superintendent of police (ASP) in Gaya. Anwar Javed Ansari has been shifted from ASP Gaya to ASP SDRF, while Sanjay Kumar Jha has been moved from Central Prohibition to ASP Siwan. Dinesh Kumar Pandey will now head the Special Task Force in Patna, shifting from his role as sub-divisional police officer (law and order).
Other officers transferred include Bhaskar Ranjan, appointed DSP (Railway), Patna from Sadar Begusarai; Sunil Kumar, posted from Sadar Nawada to headquarters Motihari; and Aditya Kumar, a 2018 batch officer, who was on the waiting list and has been posted to headquarters Banka. Nishu Malik has been moved from traffic Gaya to headquarters Nawada, Poonam Kumari from Bhagalpur to Crime Investigation Department, Patna, and Sudhir Kumar has been posted to traffic Gaya from the waiting list.
According to officials, the reshuffle aims to improve administrative efficiency, strengthen law and order, and ensure transparent election management. Special attention has been given to sensitive districts where the Election Commission has sought increased monitoring.
This transfer is part of a series of changes in recent months. Last week, 40 DSPs and 105 administrative officers were transferred, while 19 DSPs were appointed in June and 101 in November 2024. The government’s move is seen as an effort to tighten administrative control ahead of the polls.
