Patna: A woman presumed dead in a dowry-related murder case in Bihar has been found alive six years after her alleged death, living in Patna with a new husband and three children.
The case, which originated in Chapra’s Doriganj area, has sent shockwaves through the local community. In 2019, Teras Sah, a resident of Sirsabali village under Bheldi police station, filed a case at the Chapra court accusing his daughter’s in-laws of dowry harassment and murder. The accused included her husband, Sonu Kumar, and 12 members of his family, all residents of Rasulpur in Doriganj.
However, during a continued investigation, police recently located the woman in Kebda, under Punpun police outpost in Patna district. Sub-inspector Rabindra Pal brought her to Doriganj, from where she was presented before a Chapra court to record her statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Doriganj SHO Dilip Kumar confirmed that the woman is now married to another man and is the mother of three children. He also noted that despite pressure from the complainant’s side to arrest the accused, police refrained from making arrests prematurely and instead pursued the investigation, a move that ultimately spared innocent family members from wrongful imprisonment.
