Rajgir: The historic city of Rajgir is all set to host the prestigious Asia Rugby Under-20 Rugby Sevens Championship on August 9 and 10, marking a significant milestone in Bihar’s growing prominence as a sports hub. The championship will be held at the world-class Rajgir Sports Complex under the aegis of the Bihar State Sports Authority.
Authorities have intensified preparations for the successful hosting of this international event. District Magistrate Kundan Kumar, Superintendent of Police Bharat Soni, and Bihar State Sports Authority Advisor Sanjay Sinha have issued necessary directives to concerned departments to ensure flawless execution.
16 Teams from 9 Nations to Compete
The two-day championship will feature a total of 16 teams from nine countries in both men’s and women’s categories. The tournament is expected to serve as a significant platform for young rugby talents from across Asia, showcasing the growing interest in rugby sevens in the region.
Comprehensive Transport and Accommodation Arrangements
Officials have assured that high-quality transport facilities will be in place to facilitate the smooth movement of players, coaches, and match officials. Players will be provided with premium accommodation, and arrangements for nutritious meals and emergency medical support, including the availability of X-ray machines and other critical equipment, are being finalized.
Tight Security Measures in Place
Superintendent of Police Bharat Soni emphasized that multi-tier security arrangements are being established for the safety of international players and visiting spectators. Special security deployments will be made at the sports complex and surrounding areas, with enhanced crowd control measures. Fire and emergency services will also be on standby. The venue will include dedicated seating arrangements and help desks for the convenience of attendees.

Advisor to Bihar State Sports Authority Sanjay Sinha stated that the championship is a step forward in establishing Rajgir as a prominent international sports destination. “Rajgir Sports Complex already has top-tier infrastructure, and this tournament will give us an opportunity to present it on a global stage,” he said. He also stressed the importance of extensive publicity, cleanliness, and overall event management to meet international standards.
