Patna: The Patna Metro Rail project is targeting a partial launch on August 15, with initial services likely to operate between the New Pataliputra Bus Terminal (ISBT) and Bhootnath stations—a stretch of approximately 3km—according to sources familiar with the project.
Although the primary corridor of the Patna Metro spans roughly 6.1km, including stops at Zero Mile, Khemnichak, and Malahi Pakadi, construction delays at key stations mean only a limited section may be operational in time for Independence Day. Officials from the Patna Metro Rail Corporation have not confirmed an official launch plan.
Work remains incomplete at ISBT and Khemnichak stations. At ISBT, the metro station is still being constructed within the bus terminal premises, and it has not yet been connected to the main metro line. Meanwhile, Bhootnath and Zero Mile stations—built using pre-fabricated structures—are seeing rapid progress in finishing work.
Despite near-completion at Malahi Pakadi station, operational hurdles persist. The metro line has yet to be connected beyond Bhootnath, casting doubt on whether the service can extend to other parts of the corridor.
Khemnichak, planned as an interchange linking lines towards Mithapur and Malahi Pakadi, remains disconnected from the rest of the system. Construction across the National Highway near Zero Mile is also ongoing.
Construction teams are currently focusing efforts on completing the segment from ISBT to Bhootnath via the metro depot, including electrical and track installation, to ensure a limited but functional launch if deadlines are met.
