Patna: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna inaugurated its Orientation and Induction Programme 2025 on Friday, welcoming its largest-ever undergraduate cohort with a three-day event designed to ease students into campus life and academics.
This year, the institute admitted a record 783 students through JEE Advanced – 622 male and 161 female – signalling increased interest in IIT Patna across the country.
The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana in the presence of several key officials, including Director T. N. Singh, Chief Guest Alok Sharma (Director, R&D, Indian Oil Corporation), Registrar and Dean of Administration A. K. Thakur, Associate Deans Subrata Hait, Sushant Kumar and P. K. Tiwari, PIC Registration Kuldeep Patel, and Academic Division Representative Vijay Kumar.
Welcoming students and parents, T. N. Singh offered words of encouragement and reflection. “There is no shortcut to success. Do the small things in a great manner. Life may have commas and semicolons, but full stops are not acceptable. Keep learning and evolving meaningfully,” he said.
Alok Sharma, addressing the new entrants, encouraged them to embrace a positive mindset and take initiative on their path to success.
In his address, A. K. Thakur underscored the institution’s dual commitment to traditional academic values and technological innovation. “We uphold ancient traditions of scholarship while embracing innovation for the holistic development of our students,” he said.
Sushant Kumar, Associate Dean (UG), provided an academic roadmap, detailing the wide range of learning opportunities, interdisciplinary approaches, and support systems available on campus.
Over the following two days, students are set to engage in interactive sessions and campus tours that will introduce them to key facilities including academic departments, laboratories, the central library, the Students’ Activity Centre, and sports and wellness infrastructure.
