Patna: A group of eight robbers broke into the ancestral home of Wing Commander Alok Ranjan in Patna late on Monday night, fleeing with cash and jewellery worth approximately Rs 26 lakh. The incident occurred in Chotki Nagla locality under the Malsalami police station area.
According to police reports, the burglars gained entry by tampering with a window latch. Once inside, they broke open a Godrej almirah and a locked box, stealing Rs 8 lakh in cash and around Rs 18 lakh worth of jewellery.
The family, who was asleep at the time, was alerted when an alarm on the refrigerator went off. Before they could respond, the robbers locked the bedroom door from the outside and escaped.
Wing Commander Ranjan is currently posted in Tamil Nadu. His brother, Amit Ranjan, who was staying at the house with his wife and two children, said they were unaware of the break-in until the alarm rang. “When we tried to open the door, we realised it had been locked from the outside,” he told reporters. CCTV footage later confirmed the presence of eight intruders, prompting the family to alert the police.
Investigators from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and a dog squad have been deployed at the scene. Station House Officer Sunil Kumar confirmed the development and said, “Eight suspects can be seen clearly in the CCTV footage. We are conducting a thorough investigation and hope to make a breakthrough soon.”
