Patna: The Election Commission has issued a second notice to Bihar’s Leader of Opposition, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, in connection with allegations of possessing two voter ID cards. The notice, sent on Wednesday by the Electoral Registration Officer of the Digha Assembly constituency, comes after Tejashwi failed to respond to an earlier communication.
The controversy began when Tejashwi held a press conference following the release of the draft voter list on August 1. During the conference, he claimed his name was missing from the list and demonstrated this by entering his EPIC (voter ID number) on the Election Commission’s official website in front of the media.
However, the Election Commission rejected this claim, stating that Tejashwi’s name is indeed present in the draft voter list at polling station number 204, located at the Bihar Animal Science University Library Building. The district administration also released a photograph of the relevant page from the draft list, showing his name.
Further scrutiny by officials revealed that the EPIC number shown by Tejashwi during the press conference—RAB2916120—had not been officially issued. According to the Election Commission, the valid EPIC number for Tejashwi listed in the draft is RAB0456228.
In its second notice, the Commission has asked Tejashwi to submit the voter ID he referenced in the press conference so that its authenticity can be verified.
Tejashwi has not yet publicly responded to the latest notice. The matter comes at a politically sensitive time, with the Bihar Assembly elections scheduled later this year.
