Patna: Former Mokama MLA Anant Singh, known locally as ‘Chhote Sarkar’, has issued a direct challenge to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, claiming he would ensure Yadav’s bail is forfeited if the Janata Dal (United) fields him in the next election.
Singh, who was recently released on bail from Beur Jail in Patna in connection with the Sonu-Monu gang case, returned to his constituency on Thursday and declared his political intentions. “If JDU gives me a ticket, I am ready to contest against Tejashwi Yadav 24 hours a day,” he said, speaking to a local news channel. “Let him come to Mokama—I will make sure his bail is forfeited and send him back.”
Backing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Singh asserted that Kumar would return to power in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. He dismissed Tejashwi’s chief ministerial ambitions, saying, “Tejashwi cannot become CM in this lifetime—he should prepare for his next birth.”
Singh also took aim at Tejashwi’s claims of providing jobs during his tenure as Deputy CM. “Why didn’t he get jobs from his ‘Babu-Maiya’ [referring to Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi]? No one has been a better CM in Bihar than Nitish Kumar,” he said. He predicted the RJD would struggle in the 2025 elections, saying the party would win no more than 12 to 15 seats.
Singh’s wife, Neelam Devi, currently holds the Mokama seat, having been elected on an RJD ticket. However, she switched allegiance to the JDU during a crucial floor test last year. Singh has now announced plans to contest the next election himself, claiming he will do so on a JDU ticket. Singh’s release and immediate political re-entry mark a dramatic return to the state’s volatile political landscape, as Bihar gears up for a high-stakes election season in 2025.
