Patna: The Bihar government is preparing to send a proposal to the Centre to launch super fast train services connecting Patna with major cities across the state. The plan includes new Vande Bharat routes from Patna to Purnia, Patna to Jainagar via Muzaffarpur, and Patna to Bhagalpur.
According to officials, the proposal aims to improve travel efficiency and provide faster connectivity between key urban centres. At present, the Vande Bharat train covers the distance from Pataliputra to Muzaffarpur in just 90 minutes, while the Seemanchal Express takes 6 hours and 50 minutes to reach Purnia.
Other existing services include the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail from Patna to Darbhanga in 4 hours and 3 minutes, Vande Bharat from Patna to Gaya in 1 hour 15 minutes, and Rajyarani from Patna to Saharsa in 4 hours and 5 minutes.
The government’s proposal comes alongside ongoing road infrastructure upgrades, including plans to enable road travel to Patna within three and a half hours from distant parts of the state. The Chief Secretary has instructed concerned districts to expedite completion of both railway and highway projects to strengthen Bihar’s transport network.
