Patna: The Bihar Cabinet has approved road projects worth Rs 375.73 crore in Patna district, a move the state government says will ease congestion and boost connectivity.
Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin said the projects, cleared at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, would “make an important contribution to the overall development of the state”.
One of the key schemes involves the construction of a cable suspension bridge over the Punpun river at the Punpun Pinddan site, designed to resemble Rishikesh’s Laxman Jhula. The project, sanctioned at Rs 82.99 crore, will include rescue infrastructure. The 320-metre-long, 11.5-metre-wide bridge will be connected by 115 metres of approach roads on each side, allowing both pedestrians and four-wheelers to cross, improving access for residents and tourists.
The second major project, costing Rs 292.74 crore, will connect the Chiraiyatand flyover to the Mithapur flyover — one of Patna’s busiest routes. Due to heavy traffic on the stretch, construction will be carried out in phases. The first phase will create a two-lane elevated rotary and an arm towards the Mithapur bypass, while the second phase will link the elevated rotary to the Chiraiyatand flyover.
According to the Road Construction Department, the initiatives will not only ease traffic but also give a boost to religious tourism in the Punpun area, strengthening Patna’s infrastructure and accelerating regional development.
