Samastipur: The foundation stone for the new Central Library building was laid on Friday near Navjivan Club at Pethiya Gachi in Samastipur city. The project, estimated to cost Rs 80 lakh, will finally give the district a dedicated library building after years of demand.
Local MLA Akhtarul Islam Shaheen performed the groundbreaking ceremony by breaking a coconut and cutting the ribbon. Speaking at the event, Shaheen said that the absence of a proper central library building had long been felt in the district, but with this project now sanctioned, the long-cherished dream is set to become reality.
“Libraries play a vital role in the progress of any society. They are not just repositories of books and knowledge but also centers that encourage social harmony and collective awareness,” Shaheen noted.
The ceremony was presided over by social worker and city councilor representative Ravi Gupta, conducted by the MLA’s press representative Rakesh Kumar Thakur, and concluded with a vote of thanks by librarian Vinod Kumar Rai.
Several prominent citizens attended the event, including Rajesh Kumar, Assistant Professor Jitendra Prasad Nanki, former city councilor Mannu Paswan, businessman Harendra Kumar, senior social worker Ashok Kumar Gupta, and many others. Hundreds of local residents were also present, marking the occasion as a significant milestone for the city’s educational and cultural development.
