Patna: The long wait for the Patna Metro appears to be nearing its end, with officials indicating that trial runs could begin after August 20.
The Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL) had initially planned to start trials on August 15. However, pending work at the depot delayed the process. Officials now say that final preparations are under way and that the system is almost ready for testing.
The first trial will be conducted on the priority corridor between Malahi Pakadi and New ISBT. During the run, engineers will test signalling, speed and safety systems before opening the service to the public. The stretch includes five stations: New ISBT, Malahi Pakadi, Khemnichak, Bhootnath Road and Bypass.
PMRCL has set itself the target of launching metro operations for passengers by the end of September, though the timeline will depend on the success of the trial.
Authorities believe the metro will provide major relief to residents struggling with traffic congestion in the city. By offering a faster and more reliable mode of transport, officials say the project will not only save commuters’ time but also help reduce air pollution in the state capital.
