Patna: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is in Bihar for the second day of the Voter Adhikar Yatra (Voter Rights March), a 16-day campaign launched by the opposition Mahagathbandhan. The march began in Sasaram on Sunday, where Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav flagged off the initiative.
The padyatra, which accuses both the BJP-led NDA and the Election Commission of “stealing votes”, will culminate on 1 September at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. On Monday morning, Gandhi began his journey from Kutumba in Aurangabad, with several senior opposition figures including Tejashwi Yadav joining the event.
Gandhi’s schedule for the day includes a visit to the Surya Mandir in Dev, a lunch meeting with alliance leaders in Gaya’s Guraru, and a public rally at Khalis Park Chowk in Gaya in the evening. He will spend the night at Rasulpur cricket ground.
Speaking on Sunday, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav launched a sharp attack on the BJP, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was attempting to “cheat Biharis”. “Biharis may be poor, but they are not weak,” he said, warning that the opposition would not allow dishonesty in elections.
