Sheikhpura: The opposition’s Voter Adhikar Yatra resumes on Thursday from the Durga Temple at Trimukhani in Sheikhpura district, with Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav and CPI(ML) leader Dipankar Bhattacharya at the helm.
The yatra will pass through Patel Chowk, College Mor and Chewada Chowk before halting briefly at Ramgarh Chowk and breaking at Gandhi Maidan, where Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is expected to join after attending a nomination event in Delhi for the Mahagathbandhan’s vice-presidential candidate.
Later in the day, the convoy will restart from Lakhisarai Market Committee, heading towards Hemjapur in Jamalpur constituency for a tea break, before concluding at Safiabad Airport Ground in Munger for an overnight halt.
The march, which paused on August 19 at Barbigha in Sheikhpura, has been framed as a campaign to protect voting rights. Speaking then at Srikrishna Singh Chowk, Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of manipulating elections in several states, warning that “the youth of Bihar will not allow votes to be stolen”. He added: “Today, the poor have only votes left, and if this is taken away, everything will be over.”
Tejashwi Yadav echoed the sentiment, saying Bihar had “suffered a lot in the last 20 years” with failing education and health systems. “Now the time has come for change,” he told the crowd.
