Patna: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out raids in Hajipur, in the early hours of Thursday, targeting the home of a tempo stand operator.
According to officials, the operation began around 4.30am when a six-member NIA team arrived at the residence of Raju Rai on Dak Bungalow Road, under Nagar police station. Local police officers accompanied the investigators, who questioned Rai and his family members and searched the premises, including the roof.
At the same time, another raid was reported at the home of Ghoswar Raju Singh under Kazipur police station. Authorities have not yet disclosed the reasons for Thursday’s searches, and both the NIA and local police have declined to comment on the details of the operation.
This is not the first time the agency has conducted raids in Hajipur. In December 2024, investigators searched the homes of a high court lawyer and land traders in the town, as well as the residence of Satyam Kumar in Bagmali Mohalla, in connection with an AK-47 smuggling case.
Earlier police investigations had revealed that Kumar, along with his cousin Vikas Kumar from Muzaffarpur, allegedly procured AK-47 rifles from Nagaland and transported them to Bihar by train. In May 2024, Muzaffarpur police said they had seized an assault rifle with a telescopic lens, a magazine, cartridges and mobile phones linked to the case.
Both men were accused of selling the weapons locally and using the proceeds to invest in land deals, with the involvement of local traders.
