Patna: Bihar’s Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday to present the state’s newly drafted Bridge Maintenance Policy, receiving praise from the Union minister for the initiative.
During the meeting, the ministers discussed various schemes under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF). Natin Nabin said that a request has been made for approval of Rs 1,100 crore to construct 226 km of road under 15 CRIF projects. Nitin Gadkari assured swift implementation of the proposals and emphasized the importance of proper development of state roads.
The state government has already prepared and submitted project proposals for these schemes to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Nitin Nabin highlighted that these projects are critical for strengthening Bihar’s transport network, facilitating traffic flow, and improving connectivity for sectors such as business, agriculture, and education.
Nitin Nabin also briefed Nitin Gadkari on the Bihar State Bridge Management and Maintenance Policy-2025, which mandates regular maintenance of all bridges and culverts. According to Nitin Nabin, the policy will reduce repair costs, ensure bridges remain in good condition, and provide safe and accessible facilities to the public. The policy has received cabinet approval and is designed to maintain bridges throughout their intended lifespan. Bihar’s policy is the first of its kind to be implemented by any state in India.
“The construction of roads under the CRIF scheme will make life easier for people across sectors and mark a new chapter in development and progress for the region,” Nitin Nabin said.
