Patna: A shocking incident has come to light in Maner, Patna district, where the body of a 10-year-old girl was found hanging from a mango tree. The case has created fear and anger among people in the area, as police have said it appears to be a case of murder and are also investigating the possibility of rape.
The child, a resident of Ratantola in Maner, had gone missing on 26 August after she went to Mahinawa garden to collect wood. When she did not return home, her family grew worried and searched for her throughout the evening. Finally, they went to Maner police station to file a missing report. Relatives have alleged that the police did not register the case immediately and even demanded money during the search process. They believe that if the police had acted on time, the girl’s life could have been saved.
On the morning of 28 August, villagers saw the body hanging from a tree in the garden area where rainwater had gathered. The body was wrapped in polythene and tied to a stick, making it clear that someone had attempted to hide evidence. The girl’s aunt accused a local gardener of rape and murder and also blamed the police for negligence and misbehaviour. As news spread, tension gripped the entire area.
Soon after, SP West Bhanu Pratap Singh along with the forensic science team reached the spot to begin investigation. Police officials confirmed that the death looked like a case of murder and that they were also examining whether the child had been sexually assaulted. The gruesome incident has now taken a political turn, with RJD MLA Bhai Virendra strongly criticising the police for failing to investigate the missing complaint in time.
The discovery has triggered public anger, with villagers blocking roads in protest. People are demanding justice for the girl and the immediate arrest of the culprits. The victim’s family continues to seek answers and action, while pressure builds on the administration to ensure a fair and speedy investigation.
