Patna: Authorities in Patna will roll out a month-long anti-encroachment campaign from September 1, deploying bulldozers across key roads, markets and public spaces in an attempt to keep the city clear of illegal structures.
The second phase of the drive, which will run until September 27, will involve nine dedicated teams operating under the Patna Municipal Corporation across six zones – Nutan Rajdhani, Pataliputra, Kankarbagh, Bankipur, Azimabad and Patna City – along with Khagaul, Phulwarisharif and Danapur Nizamat.
Officials said the campaign is aimed at ensuring smoother traffic movement and greater pedestrian safety. Several high-footfall areas have been identified, including Harmandir Sahib, Ballila, Kanganghat, Guru Ke Bagh, Morcha Road, Ashok Rajpath, Nehru Path, Patna Junction, Boring Road, Gandhi Maidan, Kargil Chowk, Rajendra Nagar Terminal and JP Ganga Path.
Encroachment will also be cleared around major hospitals such as IGIMS, PMCH, NMCH and AIIMS to ensure better access to healthcare facilities. The commissioner has directed that no-vending zones be kept entirely free of illegal activity, and repeat encroachers will face FIRs, strict legal action and videographed evidence against them.
A roster of areas to be cleared throughout September has been issued, and local police stations have been instructed to maintain detailed records of every encroachment removal.
