Nalanda: An 18-year-old man was shot dead in Nalanda district in what police believe to be a revenge killing linked to a previous murder in the area.
The victim, identified as Shishupal Kumar alias Karu, son of Brij Yadav, was killed near the SH 78 turn in Chuharchak village under Sarmera police station. Police said preliminary investigations suggest the murder was in retaliation for the killing of a man named Kishori Yadav in the same village between July 12 and 13.
According to investigators, assailants opened fire on Shishupal late on Saturday night before fleeing the scene. Police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital in Bihar Sharif for post-mortem.
“The body has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway. The exact reason behind the incident is yet to be confirmed,” said Sarmera police station incharge Sakendra Kumar Bind.
Locals said tensions in the village have been simmering since the July killing, and this latest murder has heightened fears of escalating violence.
