Patna: An electricity department worker in Patna has alleged that he was brutally assaulted by the driver, bodyguard and supporters of a BJP legislator following a minor collision between vehicles near the R Block intersection in the capital.
Narendra Kumar, a driver with the Patna Electricity Supply Undertaking (PESU), claimed that the car of a BJP member of the legislative council (MLC) was travelling on the wrong side of the road and struck a bamboo ladder fixed to his official vehicle. The minor collision escalated into a heated argument before Kumar was allegedly dragged out and beaten on the road.

Eyewitnesses said the MLC’s driver, guard and associates attacked Kumar with sticks and rods in full public view. Despite attempts by male and female police personnel stationed at the nearby Secretariat post to intervene, the group allegedly continued to assault him.
Kumar sustained serious injuries, including deep wounds, and was admitted to hospital for treatment. A first information report (FIR) has been registered at the Secretariat police station on the basis of his statement.

Police said CCTV footage from the area is being examined. “A complaint has been registered and it has been confirmed that Narendra Kumar was beaten up. The matter is under investigation and strict action will be taken against those responsible,” said Secretariat DSP Dr Anu Kumari.
