Patna: The long-awaited inauguration of Purnia airport is set to be a major political and developmental moment for Bihar’s Seemanchal region. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally open the airport on September 15, while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is scheduled to inspect preparations on September 10 or 11.
CM Nitish, who previously reviewed the construction works in August 2024 and pressed for faster progress, will arrive in Purnia by helicopter. His itinerary includes an inspection of the interim terminal building, a visit to Parora School to view departmental stalls showcasing development schemes, and an interaction with workers in Gokulpur before returning to Patna.
The Prime Minister’s programme will combine infrastructure and politics. Following the inauguration, PM Modi will fly by helicopter from Chunapur Air Force Station to Shishabari, where a massive public meeting is planned. Officials are racing to complete a helipad and erect five large hangars at the venue to accommodate crowds and ensure security.
The administration, along with local organisations, is working to manage logistics, including route diversions, parking and multi-layered security. The event is being closely watched, with both the inauguration and the rally expected to have significant political resonance ahead of assembly elections.
