Purnia/Patna: Final touches are underway at Purnia airport in north-east Bihar as the facility readies for its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 15. Ahead of the event, deputy chief minister Samrat Chaudhary and chief secretary Pratyaya Amrit visited the site on Wednesday to oversee preparations with senior administrative officials.
They inspected essential facilities and issued directions to ensure the airport is fully equipped for commercial operations from day one. Airlines including IndiGo and StarAir have already opened bookings, with flights scheduled to begin immediately after the Prime Minister’s visit.

“The airport will be officially inaugurated on September 15 when the Prime Minister arrives in Bihar. The whole of Bihar, especially the Simanchal and Kosi regions, are very excited,” Chaudhary said during the inspection.

Purnia has been without commercial air services for decades, and the airport’s reopening is expected to transform connectivity for the region. Authorities hope the development will benefit residents, stimulate local businesses, and create new opportunities in trade and tourism.
