Gayaji/Patna: The Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor project has reached a key milestone in Bihar with land acquisition in Dobhi, Gayaji district, almost complete. Authorities confirmed that 1,671.71 acres have been secured, including 636.88 acres of government land and 1,016.24 acres acquired from farmers, though compensation disputes linger for about 197 acres.
The corridor, which covers land in 13 villages including Mangruchak, Vanvasi, Kishoriya and Gajichak, is seen as a transformative project for the region. Officials say the industrial hub will be connected by rail, road and air, easing trade and transport across eastern India.
A cluster centre is planned on 1,113.92 acres, with industrial factories occupying around 1,040 acres and the remaining land reserved for infrastructure and services. The project is expected to host food processing, textiles, auto parts, machinery and electronic industries, with development to be phased over four stages. Officials estimate around 1 to 1.5 lakh jobs could be generated once completed.
But farmers have raised concerns about delays and adequacy of compensation. “We have handed over our land, but some are still waiting for their due,” said one villager, while zonal officer Parikshit Kumar insisted the compensation process was ongoing after verification by the Land Acquisition Department.
So far, around 100 companies have inspected the site, with boundaries being marked by pillars. Connectivity plans include a new four-lane road linking National Highway 2 to the site, with tenders already floated, and proposals for three additional roads.
Once operational, the corridor will span Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal — a vast belt of industrial growth aimed at reducing migration and reshaping Bihar’s economic landscape.
